    - Explore how the oral microbiome and a dysbiosis contribute to the caries process.

    - Utilizing risk-based thinking in caries management and assessment.

    - Review the connections between cariogenic bacteria and their implications on systemic health.

    - Discuss diagnostic tools, risk assessment tools, and remineralization strategies.

    - Compare the traditional restorative model with a more preventive, patient-centered medical approach.

    - Apply concepts management and restorative strategy through various case studies.

    About the Speakers:
    Doug Thompson, DDS, FAAMM, ABAAHP
    Dr. Thompson has over 44 years of experience with Dentistry. At age 17, he became a lab technician, and then, in 1996, he graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School. He now owns and operates his dental practice, Integrative Oral Medicine, at Maple and Lahser in Bloomfield Hills, MI.

    Dr. Thompson has completed hundreds of hours of continuing post graduate education. He is Faculty at the Kois Center, a world-renowned teaching institute for dentists, in Seattle, Washington. There he teaches about managing oral disease and the relationship to systemic disease.

    In addition to his dental training, Dr. Thompson has a Fellowship in Anti-Aging Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine. There he presents to physicians a program titled, “Periodontal Disease and the Heart: A Collaborative Opportunity.”

    Dr. Thompson has several publications about the dentists’ role in detecting and preventing many diseases that are related to oral disease. He has also authored two book chapters in Integrative Cardiovascular Medicine textbooks for physicians.

    Dr. Thompson is active in our local community and enjoys his two children and four grandchildren when he teaches and visits the Seattle area.

    Douglas Young, DDS, EdD, MBA, MS
    Dr. Young is a renowned expert in minimally invasive dentistry and cariology, currently serving as Professor Emeritus at the University of the Pacific. He currently engaged in partnering with organizations interested in clinically implementing caries risk management strategies and minimally invasive dentistry, especially in underserved populations.  As a co-founder of influential organizations like the CAMBRA Coalition, ADEA Cariology Section, and American Academy of Cariology, Dr. Young has significantly shaped the field of dentistry.

    His contributions extend to the ADA, where he served on the Council of Scientific Affairs (2012-2016) and currently acts as a cariology consultant and member of the EBD Leaders network.

    Dr. Young's international presence is evident through his global presentations, publications, and research on minimal invasive dentistry, silver fluoride, glass ionomer, and Caries Management by Risk Assessment. His work continues to drive progress and innovation in modern dental care.
